From Written Journal

I just wanted to quickly reflect on our group presentations. I think everybody did a really great job, and it was nice to see the amount of commitment and effort that everyone put into their projects. I especially liked the group who made the music video it was really amazing. The production and editing were outstanding. If I were to guess, I would say those girls definitely had a shot in the entertainment business. Todays class was fun, I'm really going to miss it.

I wanted to make a post discussing my course project and the circumstances behind it. I was never able to get the solid research that would have been necessary to develop a proper and complete proposal to President Bradshaw. My previous Professor was never able to return my emails and has been out of the country this entire semester. Instead, I have taken on a project at work as an act of charity. The Brotherhood Ride gets their t-shirts and promotional material from us each year. We usually give it to them for our material and labor cost without markup for profit, but when they approached us this year, I decided I would cover the cost of materials and I would do all of the labor.

I have really started to make friends with my classmates. Caitlin, Valerie, and Kai just to name a few have been extremely hospitable. I worked with them on their final projects, which is the Plastic Bag Recycling. I did my own and will explain that in a later post. I felt like I wanted to do something with my classmates as well. I did not put in all the time and effort into the Plastic Bag Recycling that they did, but I did help with table hours. I made myself available the last couple days when I knew they would need me.

Well, the semester is starting to wind down and I am excited but I will really appreciate Colloquium for a few different reasons. Originally I did not think I would like Colloquium very much. thought it would be over-the-top, but now I realize how ignorant I truly was. I do think that this class should be required for all FGCU Graduates. However, I do feel like they should make it mandatory within the first two years or enrollment. Only because it's a Gordon Rule class.

I don't have much to write about Colloquium today. I wasn't able to present last week and I am bummed about that. I heard they had a good time and that the class participated well. I have started to research things for my Service Learning Project. I haven't heard from my Professor who I know could help me with my project. Caitlin Poor and I have decided to do the best we can at making FGCU and E-Waste recycling facility.

Once again, I'm feeling very sick. I'm supposed to be presenting my chapter to our Colloquium class in about eight hours and I feel like I wont be able to make it. It's really difficult to accept considering the amount of preparation the three of us have put into the project in the past few days. We're doing a Who's Line Is It Anyway type improve skit. I think it will be fun to witness the participation of our class and hopefully Dr. Otto as well.

I forgot to mention, that I watched my group assignments yesterday, and that mine is coming up next week. I learned a lot in our group training sessions. I especially thought it was cool to go outside. The first few chapters really had some interesting information.

Since my previous entry, I have made a conscious effort to improve my duties as a citizen of Earth. Now, whenever I go to grocery stores I save to plastic bags to bring back and recycle on my next visit. I learned that the cloth bags are actually not as sustainable of a solution as recycling plastic bags because once the fabric becomes unusable, it cannot be recycled and goes to a landfill. I think that is quite contradictory. I have been looking up and learning facts lately and I think it is because of this class. It's funny how just by learning the information, it makes me want to spread the knowledge and make sure all my family and friends are doing their part as well.

Today, although we do not have class this week, I am still thinking of colloquium. I am thinking about some of the issues we have learned in class. I am starting to realize that I am not as conservation friendly as I thought I was. I turn off lights behind myself and I try to do my part when it comes to recycling. There is much more that I can do to improve our planets current dire need to sustainability. By this, I mean, as a citizen of the world I have a duty to do my part. I have to go now, but I was pondering this and quickly wanted to make a journal entry.

Well, it is 4:00am and I woke up from a 12 hour nap.. I am pretty sure I have come down with some sort of the flu. I was fine on Monday, but around 10am yesterday I felt like a truck hit me. I am supposed to goto ECHO park with my colloquium class today, however, I better start to feel better or that will not be an option. I could only image the long busride, crowded, walking outside, I wouldn't be able to hold down anything lol. Speaking of, I am starting to feel really uncomfortable. If I do make it to the trip by some miraculous cure, I will be sure to post more.

Well Spring break is here and it hardly feels like it. I can't believe the semester is almost half-over. I really do not have much planned.. The weather hasn't warrented any belief that I will get to the beach. Work has really been picking up. Since we have expanded and moved the the bigger space, business has increased almost 100%. People are just getting bigger amounts and more items, but I have seen a sizeable increase in new customers as well. I know this journal is supposed to be for colloquium, but since there is not much to talk about atm. That is what is on my mind. I really hope things continue to improve. When we get back from SP we are going to some place called ECHO park. This is the only one of our trips that is at a place I have never heard of. I look forward to the trip, and seeing Otto and my classmates again.

I just finished my Florida's People & Environment Paper. It was a pretty fun book to write because I had to read. YES, I had to read.. haha. I never read anything past monthly or daily periodicals. Newpapers and Magazines (and online articles of course) have always been my reading outlet.
the book I chose, sparked my interest because it was about a guy that was from Sanibel. I'm not going to summarize the book because I did enough writing about it but basically, it is about a guy who made a living fishing on Sanibel. Since I love fishing, and I know the waters of SW FL pretty well, I decided it was the right choice for me. The book took a little over a day for me to read, but only about 6-7 hours total.

We went to Matanza's last wednesday, well.. let me rephrase that. The Class went to Matanza's. and I went to Matanza's. I missed the bus by literally seconds. I tried to call Taryn about a couple times between 1:45-2. But she didnt answer. Edit: Taryn dropped the class the week before.
Either way, I was walking to the bus and it drove away. No biggie I thought, until I realized that the other bus sitting in the lot was NOT my classes. I walked around campus, walked to the classroom, drove to the gravel lot and then decided to drive to FTM Beach myself. It took about 55 min to get there because traffic was so bad. However, once I arrived the bus driver informed me that they had only been there for a few minutes.

I walked inside an old style home that was original to the site. It was really cool seeing a house that has survived such powerful hurricanes. A simple, wooden design capable of being opened up and dried out after storms. Brilliant.

We learned a lot about the beach and the bay. Mostly about the wildife, living styles, and commercial uses of the island during earlier times.

All in all, I had a fun experience and I thought it was a good day of class.

This week we will be going on a class trip to Matanzas pass on ft. myers beach. I have a lot of history with that place. Matt and I used to dock the boat there whenever we would goto the beach. I think, in Feb-August of '06, Matt and I probably went there almost 3 or 4 times a week! We were always at the beac because neither of us could drive so instead of taking the bus from St. James city, we would just hop on the boat and take a ride to the beach.

It would take about 45 mins to get the boat packed, lowered, and make it to the beach from the time of decision. It took over 45 minutes just to drive off St. James city, with your own car.

Anyway, I look forward to the trip and I am sure it will be fun.

A lot to catch up on...

Well I have a lot to catch up on. I haven't posted in a while for a few reasons. The most prevelant would be work. It has been extremely busy at the print shop because we moved next door into a bigger unit. Alas, I finally have my own office and that just plain feels good :-). UNO has been pretty busy also. The second reason is that the few chances I tried to log on to post since my last, I forgot which email I used for my username! d'oh! Oh well, I am here now and I better get to the point because I must be brief.

I am putting the finishing ouches on my paper for colloquium. I chose to read a book written about and out of Sanibel by Captain Bob Sabatino. His story is really amazing and it really has the ability to open one's eyes to how things were back in the 50s,60s, and on to the present. The book is called Every Day is Saturday which refers to his pleasurable lifestyle of being an island resident and a fishing/shelling guide.

Tomorrow is a new day

Today has been a pretty good day. Manchester United won their Champions League match over AC Milan so that was the highlight. I went to work and had a slow and uneventful shift. Ashley is here and I am glad for that.

Now for the reason I post:

Tomorrow is another Wednesday and you know what that means, Colloquium! We are taking a trip to Matanza's Pass near Ft. Myers beach. It should be a good time because it is more of my cup of tea when it comes to ecosystems. By this I mean mangrove flats, and canals/waterways. I am a fisherman and therefore I know mangrove lined waterways are often flourishing with game fish (snook, trout, red-fish, and jack cravelle.) I am excited for this trip and I should be back tomorrow or the next day with my response and highlights of the trip.

No sports facility mgmt class tomorrow night so I think I will take the time to catch up on some reading and I will probably start moving the print shop. More details on the Print shop move will be available on a post later this week.

Until my next post.

FIRST BLOG

First Blog..

Back again I am to the world of blogging. I would consider my stint at LiveJournal a Blog but this is a little more straightforward. I could go on about everything that is Andrew Reagan but since I had once purpose to create this thing (school), I will stay on course. The reason is it was a requirement for my Honors University Colloquium class. I tried to nab andyreagan.blogspot.com and it was TAKEN! By some kid at VT.

Today we took a jaunt around campus to look at some of the habitats in the surrounding woodlands. It was pretty cool. A butterfly was the extent of wildlife sitings. It was an extremely nice day. I love the weather when it is hot in the sun but with the breeze its very cool.

I took my Sports Facility exam and I am sure I aced it - it was extremely straightforward and was directly from our handouts.

I am bored with this thing already..
